Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Duplicate Content Checker.

How is the similarity score calculated?

Both texts are broken into overlapping five word phrases. The score shows what share of the shorter text's phrases also appear in the other text. Short common phrases like "in the end" barely affect the score, while copied sentences raise it quickly.

What similarity percentage is too high?

For different pages on the same website, try to keep similarity under about 20 to 30 percent so each page offers unique value. Between two essays or articles that should be independent, anything above 10 to 15 percent is worth a closer look at the highlighted sentences.

Does this tool search the whole internet?

No. This tool compares two texts that you provide, which makes it fast, private and free. To check a specific page, copy its text into Text B. To find copies elsewhere, search a unique sentence from your text in quotes on Google.

Why does duplicate content matter for SEO?

When several pages contain mostly the same text, search engines may struggle to choose which one to show, and they may filter some out of the results. Keeping each page distinct, or using a canonical tag for true duplicates, helps the right page rank.
