Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Word Counter.
How does the word counter decide what counts as a word?
A word is any group of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Contractions like "don't" and hyphenated words like "well-known" count as one word, which matches how Microsoft Word and Google Docs count. Standalone symbols and emojis are not counted as words.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is based on an average silent reading speed of about 238 words per minute, which is the figure most research on adult readers points to. Speaking time uses about 140 words per minute, a comfortable pace for presentations and podcasts. Your own speed may be a little faster or slower.
Is my text saved or stored anywhere?
No. The counting happens entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and your text is never sent to our server. When you close or refresh the page, the text is gone unless you copied it somewhere yourself.
Is there a limit on how much text I can count?
There is no fixed limit. You can paste very long documents, such as full theses or book chapters. Extremely large texts of several hundred thousand words may make the page feel slower on older devices, but they will still be counted.
Why is my count slightly different from another tool?
Tools treat edge cases differently, such as numbers with commas, URLs, emojis or words joined by slashes. MintSEOPro follows the common word processor approach, so the result should match Word or Google Docs in almost every case and differ by only a word or two otherwise.
How long should a blog post be for SEO?
There is no single perfect length, but in-depth posts of 1,200 to 2,500 words tend to rank well for competitive topics because they cover a subject fully. Short answers can rank too if they match search intent. Use the counter to compare your draft with the pages already ranking for your keyword.
