Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the GST Calculator.

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

To add GST, multiply the amount by the rate and divide by 100, then add it to the amount. For example, 18% GST on 1,000 rupees is 180 rupees, so the total is 1,180 rupees. This calculator does it for you instantly.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Divide the price by 1 plus the rate divided by 100. For example, for 1,180 rupees with 18% GST, 1,180 divided by 1.18 gives a base price of 1,000 rupees, so the GST is 180 rupees.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into Central GST and State GST, for example 9% plus 9% for an 18% rate. For a sale to another state, the full rate is charged as Integrated GST.

What are the current GST rates in India?

After the GST rate rationalisation that took effect on 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall under 5% or 18%, with a special 40% rate for luxury and sin goods, and lower rates such as 0.25% and 3% for certain items like precious stones and gold. Some items are exempt. The older 12% and 28% rates are still included here for past invoices.

Is this calculator suitable for filing returns?

It is a quick and accurate calculator, but GST rules include exemptions, cess and special cases. For filing returns, always confirm rates and rules with a qualified tax professional or the official GST portal.
