Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Hosting Checker.

How does the hosting checker work?

It looks up the IP address that the website's domain points to, then finds which network and organisation that IP belongs to. That organisation is usually the hosting company, cloud platform or content delivery network serving the site.

Why does it show Cloudflare or another CDN instead of the host?

Many sites use a content delivery network or security proxy in front of their real server. The public IP then belongs to the CDN, which hides the original hosting provider. That is normal and often done for speed and security.

Can I find the exact data centre?

The tool shows the approximate city and country of the IP address. Exact data centre locations are rarely published, and IP location data is an estimate.

How do I report a phishing site to its host?

Use the hosting provider shown here and look for an abuse contact on their website, often abuse@ followed by their domain. Include the full URL and a description of the problem.
