Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Text Summarizer.

How does the text summarizer work?

It reads your whole text, works out which words and topics appear most often, and gives every sentence a score based on how many of those important terms it contains and where it sits in the text. The highest scoring sentences are kept in their original order to form the summary. This is called extractive summarization.

Will the summary change any facts?

No. Because the tool selects complete sentences from your text rather than writing new ones, it cannot invent facts or misquote numbers. You may want to lightly edit the result so the sentences flow together smoothly.

What kind of text works best?

Structured, informative writing such as news articles, blog posts, reports and essays gives the best results. Very short texts of only two or three sentences cannot be summarized much, and dialogue or poetry does not suit sentence based summaries.

Is there a word limit?

There is no strict limit. Texts of a few hundred to several thousand words work well. Very long books are better summarized chapter by chapter so each part keeps its key points.

Is my content kept private?

Yes. The summary is created inside your browser and your text is not uploaded or stored anywhere.
