Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Text to Binary Converter.

How is text converted to binary?

Each character is first turned into bytes using UTF-8 encoding. Each byte is a number from 0 to 255, which is then written in binary as eight 0s and 1s. For example, the letter A is 65, which is 01000001 in binary.

Why does one character sometimes produce several bytes?

English letters use one byte each, but characters from other scripts and emojis need two to four bytes in UTF-8. That is why Hindi text or an emoji produces more binary groups.

Can I paste binary without spaces?

Yes. When decoding binary, a continuous string of 0s and 1s is automatically split into groups of eight bits.

What is hexadecimal used for?

Hexadecimal, or hex, is a compact way to write bytes using 0 to 9 and A to F. It is common in programming, colour codes, memory addresses and network data.
